Relationship between motivation and self-esteem of society football practitioners
Abstract
Introduction and Objective: Both biological and environmental factors interfere in the motives for adhering to and remaining in a given physical exercise. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between motivation and self - esteem of football practitioners from a city in the northwest of Paraná, Paraná, Brazil. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study, in which 80 adult males were evaluated through Exercise Motivation Inventory-2 (EMI-2) and the Rosemberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney and Spearman correlation tests. Results: The subjects that practice the modality more times per week are more motivated for the social recognition. There was a correlation of age with the "disease prevention" factor (r=0.26) and the "fun" factor with self-esteem (r=0.20). Conclusion: It is concluded that the practice of another exercise seems to interfere in the fun and the search for the rehabilitation of the health of the practitioners, in addition to associating the age with the "disease prevention" motif and the "fun" factor with self-esteem.
