Prevalence and profile of athletic injuries in female athletes of futsal during the brazilian college sports competitions
Abstract
Futsal indoor soccer has emerged as the sport with the highest number of fans in Brazil and there is an increasing number of women who practice this sport. The aim of this study was to analyze the profile of athletic injuries in female athletes of the College Premier Futsal League during the Brazilian college sports competitions 2014. This is an observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study, based on the analyses of medical charts issued by the Brazilian University Sports Confederation health care team of the College Futsal League. Forty-one medical records were collected. The affected segment (s), the competitor's (state) team, and age were collected through access to medical records. Data were treated in descriptive terms and Pearson's linear correlation was performed (p <0.05). The athletes participated in 18 matches, presenting a prevalence of 2.16 injuries per match. Non-contact lesions with other athletes presented higher prevalence than lesions associated with contact. There was prevalence of single-record injuries when compared to injury re-occurrences. The prevalence of injuries per match showed high positive correlation with the day of the competition, a statistically significant result (p <0.05). The lower limbs had a higher prevalence of injuries, being these musculotendines. As regards the segments, there was prevalence of ankle and thigh injuries. Futsal indoor soccer is a sport that involves risk, and which has high frequency of injuries, being necessary to carry out studies that address factors related to such events in order to guide future studies aimed at preventing new injuries and their re-occurrences.
