Characterization of the sleep standard of futsal young athletes
Abstract
The objective of the present study was to identify the number of hours of sleep at night, the prevalence of daytime sleepiness, and complaints about insomnia after training and after-games of U-17 futsal athletes. The sample consisted of 88 male futsal athletes, with a mean age of 16.3 1.52 years, belonging to eight clubs affiliated to the Federation Roraimense de Futsal. All athletes involved in this research were state-level and / or national level and conducted training between three and five times a week with a duration ranging from 60 to 90 minutes. The athletes were submitted to a questionnaire adapted from Horne and Östberg (1976), in the own place of competition, in an individualized way. The data were presented through descriptive statistics, using mean and standard deviation, frequency and percentage values. The verification of normality was performed through the Shapiro Wilk test. The significance was 5% (p <0.05). The results indicated that the athletes slept on average 7.3 0.73 hours of nocturnal sleep, with 42% indicating that they slept during the day. 96.5% and 95% of the young salonistas reported respectively no post-match insomnia and post-workout insomnia. It can be concluded that recommendations and instructions on sleep become part of the training routines of young futsal practitioners, as well as investigate which information and strategies are most effective in improving athletes' sleep.
