Relative age effect in female football: An analysis of the past to the presente feminine world cup FIFATM
Abstract
This article aims to identify the influence of the period of birth on the performance and tactical positioning of high-level female football athletes of the 32 participating countries of the seven FIFA Women's World CupTM editions. To accomplish this goal, it was collected on the official website of the entity's date of birth of 1601 athletes. As for the statistics, we used the chi-square test (X2) for analysis of the time of birth, with a significance level of p = 0.05, odds ratio (OR) and confidence intervals at 95% (CI). From this analysis, it is concluded that the overall picture, there is a Relative Age Effect (RAE) in the group of athletes, with no RAE when the analysis is fragmented (except athletes of the African continent) in tactical positional grouping, continental countries participants and the course of each Women's World Cup. With the evolution of the sport and the largest number of participants, may be in the future the possibility of RAE, which will require more related studies.
