Biochemical markers of overtraining syndrome in male football players
Abstract
Overtraining (OT) is the result of the imbalance between the demand of the exercise and resilience of the body, football players are a risk population. The physiotherapist and the multidisciplinary team are involved with the athlete and thus should know to recognize it and draw the best rehabilitation program. In addition to the symptoms, other form of identification is through biochemical markers, the main being creatine phosphokinase (CK), cortisol, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), urea and creatinine. The objective of this study was to analyze and describe retrospective studies that used biochemical markers to identify the OT syndrome in male football players. Methods: Research in Scielo databases, journals Portal Capes, PubMed, Lilacs and VHL Research Portal with publication between 2005 and 2014, text books related to the subject through keywords. Results: 30 references were analyzed, of which 5 were in accordance with the methodology applied. Markers, CK had an increase of 2 studies and only one declined, being assigned to the home. Two studies showed increased lactate and two of cortisol. Only one study evaluated urea which remained on benchmarks and another increase of creatinine assessed. Conclusion: OT syndrome is common in male soccer players, but there is no specific biochemical markers, because there is no standardized reference values that can be used. It is suggested study that correlates the main markers with the OT male football players to find specific reference values to detect this.
