The motivation to practice Futsal: A study with athletes aged between 13 and 18 years old
Abstract
This quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study aimed to verify the motivation for the sport of 50 futsal male athletes, aged 13 to 18, distributed in the following categories: Sub-14 (16 athletes), Sub-16 (17 athletes) and Sub-18 (17 athletes), representing the city of South Caxambu in championships organized by Fesporte (Joguinhos, Olesc and Jesc). The Escala de Motivos para Prática Esportiva (Reasons Scale for Sports Practice), was used as data collection instrument. This was validated by Barroso (2007) for Brazilian population and consists of 33 questions with Likert scale. This instrument has seven motivational dimensions, determined in the following way: status, physical fitness, energy, environment, technical, membership and health. The SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows), version 20.0 was used for obtaining the results. By analyzing all the subjects, the results indicated that health factors, affiliation and technical development were the most important, followed by physical fitness, status, power release, and context. There was significant statistical difference, by analysis of variance only in the dimension Physical Conditioning. The Scheff's follow up test found that this difference is between the SUB-16 (M = 9.3) and the SUB-18 (M = 8.7).There was no statistically significant difference between the categories examined in other dimensions. It is hoped that this research will stimulate further studies in the area and serve as a theoretical basis for the actions during training.
