Relationship cortisol / testosterone in football players: a study of systematic review

Abstract

Football is a sport of intermittent characteristics and requires a very high physiological demand and for a long period of time, so there is a concern with the state in which athletes are right after the event and after a period of recovery, and to control the level of performance of professional athletes use the relationship cortisol / testosterone to identify at what point is it state of the athletes at that particular moment. Thus the aim of this review was to analyze the acute and chronic effects of the testosterone / cortisol on the performance of professional football players. National and international databases for the search were used. At the end of the search after establishing the inclusion and exclusion criteria it was found eight articles that were suitable for this review. In conclusion we observed that reduction in performance was not associated with higher levels of cortisol in the blood stream as well as the reduction of the testosterone / cortisol.
