Effect of non-dominant leg training on category sub-13 football athletes
Abstract
Introduction: Ambidextrous football players have greater dexterity than athletes who only train their dominant leg. Despite this, few players train the non-dominant leg to perform better. Objective: To evaluate the performance of the non-dominant leg of under-13 football athletes. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 10 participants from a Football School aged between 12 and 13 years old. Pass and kick tests were applied in Mor e Christian (1979). After the first collection, interventions with technical training were applied for two months for the experimental group. After that, the tests were reapplied. To compare the tests between the groups, the t student was used, and to compare before and after the intervention, the t paired. A significance level of p<0.05 was adopted. Results: It was verified significant differences in the tests between the groups when comparing the values in the post-test. Thus, training the non-dominant leg in passing and kicking showed better results in the experimental group. However, comparing the pre and post-tests of the experimental group, there were no significant differences. Discussion: The data from this study are in line with the findings in the literature, which showed positive results after the intervention of the non-dominant leg. Conclusion: No statistical differences were found after the intervention with extra training of the non-dominant leg in kicking and passing in under-13 football athletes.
