Abstract

Futsal is an intermittent high-intensity sport that generates important biological disturbances, including possible changes in the secretion of inflammatory mediators, among these, C-reactive protein ([CRP]). The objective of this study was to evaluate the responses of [CRP] in college futsal athletes who participated in an acute training session, as well as to verify a possible correlation between [CRP] and the ratio perception of effort (RPE) reported by athletes in this session. Blood samples were collected immediately pre-training, immediately post-training and 48 hours post-training. The results showed no significant change in [CRP] between the various collection times, as well as no correlation between [CRP] and athletes’ RPE. The literature shows that the inflammatory responses of a training session, physical test, or even competitive matches vary depending on the type and loads of training, the competitive period and the level of conditioning of practitioners. It is concluded that a single Futsal training session, with exercises to improve strength, speed and technical and tactical aspects, does not constitute sufficient stimulus to alter [CRP] in college athletes during the 48 hours after the end of this session at the beginning of the competitive phase of training.
