Abstract

The aim of this study was to verify the effect of the inside floater on the tactical behaviour of under-11 football players. The sample consisted of 18 elite football players. The instrument used to evaluate the tactical behaviour of the players was the System of Tactical Assessment in Football. The tactical behaviour was analysed through the number of tactical actions, the percentage of correct actions and the tactical performance index. The repeated measures t-test and the Wilcoxon test were used to determine the difference in tactical behaviour between games with and without an inside floater. Regarding tactical actions, the game with inside floater showed significantly lower values in the core tactical principle defensive coverage and higher values in the core tactical principle defensive unity tactical than the game with no inside floater. Regarding the percentage of correct actions, the game with the inside floater showed significantly lower values in the core tactical principle offensive coverage and balance than the game with no inside floater. Finally, in the tactical performance index, the game with inside floater showed significantly lower values in the core tactical principles mobility, defensive coverage and balance than the game with no inside floater. It is concluded that the inside floater influenced the tactical behaviour of under-11 football players proving to be a task constraint which generates tactical behaviours in contexts of numerical advantage and disadvantage, and which can therefore be inserted in training to develop players’ tactical performance.
