Performance analysis of teams participating in the brazilian championship of men's football 2019 through the DEA Network
Abstract
Analyzing the situation of football teams in Brazil and in the world, we note the high competitiveness that the sport has shown over the years. It is possible to observe a great concern of the clubs in obtaining better performance, guaranteeing greater profitability, and managing their expenses. That said, this work aims to use the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method to trace the efficiency of the clubs in the Brazilian championship. DEA is a technique that uses linear programming to evaluate the efficiency of productive units called DMUs (Decision Making Units or decision-making units). In this way it is possible to use it to compare the efficiency between football teams. In the study, a variation of the traditional DEA will be applied, which is the NDEA (Network Data Envelopment Analysis) using the two-stage relational multiplicative model to obtain greater precision in the efficiency of the results than the traditional models offer. This study was able to obtain the efficiency of the championship clubs in the first, second and overall stage, in addition to drawing the graphic representation for each stage. Finally, a comparative analysis was made between one team and another separately. In addition, a comparison was also made between the top six teams. Only Fortaleza and Goias were efficient in the overall stage, beyond them, Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro were the only efficient in any of the stages.
