THE Female football, gender identity and sexism
Abstract
Female participation in football is permeated by difficulties, prejudices and overcoming. Thus, this literature review aimed to analyze the scientific production on gender identity and sexism in women’s football based on research in databases and in Brazilian journals of Physical Education (2007 to 2020). In the data collection, we selected the keywords female football, gender identity and prejudice in female football. The results show that female football players are poorly portrayed by the media and suffer various forms of prejudice, despite the growing number of women competing in football. Finally, it is identified that the topics are rarely discussed in the main journals of Physical Education in Brazil.
