Can aerobic capacity of regular university futsal practitioners be improved with concurrent aerobic training?
Abstract
The futsal sport modality can be practiced with different objectives by people of both sexes and varied ages. It can be used to improve aerobic conditioning, which is directly related to health. However, the practitioner, even if assiduous, may not reach the levels recommended for health just by practicing the modality, and aerobic training can assist in this matter. The objective of this study was to evaluate the aerobic conditioning of university adults practicing futsal before and after a concomitant aerobic training. Materials and Methods: 14 volunteers (11 male) participated in the study, with an average age of 23.1 ± 3.8 years, regular futsal practitioners for at least one year. The practice of the sport was twice a week. In addition to specific futsal training, the volunteers performed a concomitant interval aerobic training in one of two sessions (once a week, 30 minutes/day). Anthropometry measurements were performed, and aerobic capacity was tested with the Leger Test before and after the training period. All analyzes were performed with a pre-established significance level (α = 5%). Results: After training, a significant increase in limb perimeters and maximum oxygen consumption was observed and there was a tendency to decrease skin folds. Conclusion: The proposed training met expectations, with improvement in aerobic conditioning and anthropometric parameters of the participants, even in regular futsal practitioners.
